It is interesting that 49.6% of LDS women who answered this question masturbate at least 10 times per year.

In other words, 1 in 2 LDS women are masturbating once a month or more. This number is much higher than I would have anticipated, what are your thoughts?

This one was a bit surprising. 35.2% of LDS Women admit to at some point being sexually attracted to a member of the same sex; however only 12.7% of women acted upon those feelings, and, while I thought this was a clearly worded question, evidently it wasn’t (based on the answers).

If you ever acted upon that attraction with a member of the same sex, did you go to the bishop about it?

Many people that did not act upon that attraction or that didn’t have an attraction decided to answer that question. Arrgghh. 🙁

So, here are the numbers simplified:

  • 211 LDS women admit to having an attraction to another woman
  • 76 of LDS women who had the attraction acted on it
  • 17 of those women went to the Bishop to confess
  • 73 of the women did NOT go to the Bishop to confess
  • 179 report they never acted upon the attraction

Now, these numbers don’t completely add up, which is a bit frustrating, but being new at creating survey’s, I didn’t create a rule in there to force them to stay consistent with their answers.

In other words, if they said they had an attraction to another women in the first question, I didn’t remove the options about never having an attraction or not needing to go to the bishop in future questions.

Lesson learned.

LDS Women Same Sex Attraction

When LDS Women were asked if they’ve cheated, 9.2% of women admit to cheating on their spouse. That is a bit lower than national statistics of 14% of women who admit cheating.

Have you cheated on your spouse (LDS Women)

  1. Oh, wow. I’ve investigated the church and was totally freaked out by the law of chastity even though I’m married and was never promiscuous. I feel better knowing 80% of respondents masturbate. It’s important piece of sexuality to know yourself.

    1. That’s what we’ve seen as well. The church pounds into it’s members the importance of being chaste (which I agree, following the law of chastity is important).

However, is it really important that the church takes such a hard line with masturbation?

      I don’t know.

All I know is that I’ve always felt uncomfortable with that, and growing up I felt immense amount of guilt for masturbating, and that I was unworthy, that I shouldn’t be taking or preparing the sacrament, etc. It took it’s toll on me, and I really felt worthless because I couldn’t kick that habit.

I do know that we need to send our youth a better message than the one I got.

        1. Any behavior done to the extreme can cause a negative effect on a person emotionally, physically, etc.

It isn’t masturbation in and of itself that is bad.

It would be excessive masturbation that causes distributions and takes over ones life, that is when it is bad.

It is damaging to the person who occasionally gives in and masturbates, when they are given the message that masturbation is an abomination and makes them unclean and that they can not have the spirit with them because they masturbate on occasion.

Look at the results of this survey, 80% of LDS women have masturbated, and 50% regularly masturbate. Surely the spirit hasn’t completely forsaken half of the Mormon female population because they masturbate? Let’s use common sense here.
